Therapeutic Services

Therapeutic Services Overview

1848 provides young people with an in-house multi-disciplinary Wellbeing Team, including; Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. To enable a truly bespoke service, we also utilise a diverse range of therapeutic approaches from outside providers such as equine therapy and art therapy.

Therapy is offered in a truly integrated form, with flexible delivery in 1:1 or small group sessions and in a setting that suits each young person. The Wellbeing team further imbed therapeutic support through provision of specialist training based on subject and individual young person need. The Wellbeing Team ensure a close working relationship with local CAMH’s services.

Wellbeing Team Outcome Measurement

The Wellbeing Team utilise a range of resources to baseline assess each young person who joins 1848. This includes formal assessment such as the Beck Youth Inventories™ - Second Edition for Children and Adolescents (BYI-II), CELF -4 (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals 4th Edition UK).

Informal Assessment such as Communication and Pragmatic profiles, Strengths and Needs questionnaires including by proxy of carers/social workers/family, Verbal Reasoning and Problem Solving assessments, Emotional Literacy to inform Zones of Regulation to name some. In addition to this all the Wellbeing Team conduct structured and informal observations in different contexts and join the staff meetings to learn about each young person in the first four week assessment period.

Once baseline measures have been undertaken, the Wellbeing Team combine this with the young person’s goals and care plan aims to formulate SMART targets. These targets are communicated to the Home team to ensure a holistic approach is used to generalise skills and awareness generated through direct therapy. The young person will have an understanding of the target in a low-pressure format.

The young person is also supported to create a bespoke Positive Behaviour Support Plan which highlights any needs they have and how they want staff to consistently support them. The monthly review of these plans demonstrates to the young person that their strategies and regulation abilities improve through time and is cause to celebrate the changes and developments noted in their plan.
